Nutrition – Partner Assignments - Alejandro & Clarisa - Discuss
Both my partner and I have looked through the new and improved website together. We both agree that the website is a great improvement to the old food pyramid and general food serving guidelines.
We like that the website has a lot of very important information and great tips for everyone and all ages. We like the healthy eating tips for eating out – this will allow us to make better choices for entrees when at a restaurant. We also like the tips for the physical activity section – Alejandro will try to increase his physical activities based on these tips ex.He will walk his family dog more oftern to increase his weekly activities. Clarisa will increase her physical activity based on the tips on this page ex. Wash the car.
We didn't really feel the sample menus and recipes page was great due to the inability to search for recipes. They were all listed, but not in alphabetical order or any order.
We both agree that this website was very helpful to clarify what we should be eating for good nutrition.
The Daily Food Planner will come in handy for both of us since we both need work on our food choices in each food group. We like the worksheets that give suggested goals based on calories.
Part A.
- A. - Alejandro – Based on my comparison of my food log and the recommendations made by the website – I need to try to include more of the suggested food groups. I noticed that my daily fruit intake is more than my vegetables category. Based on my recommended daily serving on this website I should be getting 3 cups of dairy. I'm now getting about half of my daily suggested servings usually in cereal or cheese. I usually have granola bars as snacks or sometimes meals and have whole wheat bread when ordering sandwiches. I feel 9 oz of grains is a lot for me.
Based on my age/calories:

- A. – ClarisaI reviewed my daily food plan for my age group and weight etc, I noticed I should be eating more of each category. I'm probably closest in the fruit group than any other group, but I could probably do better by incorporating a juice or apple a day. I have my dairy by eating a yogurt a day and usually use cream in my coffee. I also eat some cheese with a sandwich or ice cream once in a while. I try to eat vegetables each day with dinner, but if I don't then a 100% green juice is substituted. I'm not a vegetarian, but I usually don't cook a lot of red meat unless I'm out at a restaurant. I usually include a protein shake or protein bar to make up for this. For the grain category, I include use whole grain bread for a sandwich or whole grain pasta and can do better.

Week 6 Nutrition Assignment - Part B
Part B. Clarisa
I choose to use a food label for something I already include in my daily food. It's for Organic Annie's Shells & Real Aged Cheddar/Macaroni & Cheese. I think its okay for my diet because it's organic and is a good source of calcium and protein. It also has folate and vitamin b1 in it and no artificial flavors or preservatives. I include this in my diet because it's easy to make and I love cheese. I also really like that it's organic.
My partner Alejandro provided a few comments:
He suggested I try their other product that is similar whole wheat shells & cheddar instead since I already like the brand and fact that it's organic. He also mentioned that I would be getting the extra fiber from this product. Alejandro suggested I don't eat this everyday or have a lot of water with it since it has 21% sodium!
Part B. Alejandro
I used a food label for a band I already use for making spaghetti. I use Prego Traditional pasta sauce. I choose this as my diet because my girlfriend likes to make spaghetti and also it has Potassium
Vitamin E and Calcium. Its low on fat and he doesn't say its high. My partner Clarisa suggested adding extra vegetables and using whole wheat pasta to make the spaghetti healthier.
